How to make Nightcore (NIGHTCORE TUTORIAL) UPDATED

Post by HKO2006 » June 14th, 2014, 12:08 am

A thread try to combine and revise the following threads into one thread plus all the advanced info needed to make quality nightcore. You should read them if you haven't yet.
How to Nightcore a song! (NIGHTCORE TUTORIAL): http://nightcoreuniverse.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=142
NIGHTCORE POSTING REGULATIONS (READ BEFORE POSTING!): http://nightcoreuniverse.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1349
The Nightcore meme: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/nightcore

You are highly recommended to listen to the original Nightcore songs if you haven't yet.

If you can't get enough, here is moaaar: http://www.di.fm/nightcore :)

If you find the songs you are going to use do not sound like the above songs. It is absolutely fine as long as you don't label them nightcore, use Artist - Song Name (Sped Up), (Speed Mix) or (Speed Edit) instead. If you are desperately want to label them nightcore, please do add the actual genre after Nightcore - Song Name [Genre].

It is good to see people can listen to what they enjoy. Just a little more classifications can help everyone get what they want more easily. Thank you very very much.

If you have any doubt about Why Nightcore is sped up dance/trance not sped up any song, please read the following thread. http://nightcoreuniverse.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4939

I think understanding what you mean, but I'm not sure... I try to give you an answer telling you how I edit tracks... I first simply speed up the original track (and the key changes automatically, for this song the key is Em at 170 BPM) and then I change the pitch, it depends on the original voice singing and my taste and "experience". That's for female vocals songs. For male ones is different and it's a bit more complex and difficult. When I speed up, they changes the key into "female" one and it often sounds very horrible, so I have to change the key and not the pitch, coming back to the most similar key of the original song. The speed of the song sounds a bit slower (and I adjust it speeding the track of 1BPM or decimals) and the song sounds also a bit "muffled" (I adjust it balancing tremble/mid/bass) but the difference between the coming back to the original key and the BPM has to be very high to notice these "lack of audio quality". Key editing is different from pitch editing, key editing is strict (there are different keys) while you can pitch a song how many times you want till you reach the maximum level of the sound distortion. Changing the key, the pitch indirectly changes too, you can hear the vocals more female, and vice versa, but, pitch and key are not the same things, but on this point of view, we can say that the result is the same.

Eurodance

Eurodance?

UNKNOWN Genre
Vocal trance or euro house?

House but what house?

Between vocal trance and euro house

Things to add, again no need to see
Audacity vs wavepad
it’s because wavepad lowers the volume of everything but the bass
LonelyLittleAngel - 03:46
wavepad the bass sounds a little bit muffled but is not noticeable.
emilemil1 - 04:13
pitching up the bass makes it less bassy
LonelyLittleAngel - 04:12
eww then the song was origianly poor quality
emilemil1 - 04:08
the muffled bass is the actual sound

Part 1. Genre
The following classification is written an amateur with the informations from Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music, Discogs, Wikipedia, Rate Your Music and Last.fm which are also written by amateurs at some point.
Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music:
http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/

(a) Mainstream Nightcore (Eurodance, Hands Up, Hard Trance and Trance)

Most Nightcore are made of these genres.

(i) Eurodance

http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Hard+Trance/
http://www.last.fm/tag/hard%20trance
http://www.last.fm/tag/hardtrance

Examples:

(iv) Trance
Consider the are LOTS of subgenres of Trance, we are using the ones that make make people dance all night long, hence the name Nightcore, we are NOT using Trance that really make people into a state of trance.

Info:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_trance_genres
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trance_music

Examples:

Just not enough vocal or would be perfect

(b) Minor nightcore (Italo Dance, Bubblegum Dance, Eurobeat, Euro House, Hardcore, Hard Style and Vocal Trance)
All genres/styles in this lists are not used by the original Nightcore. But still a better than calling a sped up rock nightcore.

If you are not sure the songs are ok or not, please ask in the following thread (login needed)
http://nightcoreuniverse.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1350

(i) Italo Dance
A sub genre of Eurodance.

Info:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italo_dance
http://www.last.fm/tag/italodance

Artist: Examples:

(ii) Bubblegum Dance
A subgenre of Eurodance, characterized by cute lyrics, happy sounds and somewhat more pop like.

Info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubblegum_Dance
http://www.bubblegumdancer.com/

Examples:

Examples of may not be hard enough:

(iii) Eurobeat
Eurobeat (aka Para Para in Japan), is like cousin of Eurodance but more high energy, and more pop like.

Examples:

(iv) Euro House

Info:
http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Euro+House/
http://www.last.fm/tag/euro%20house

Examples:

(iii) Hardcore (Hardcore, Happy Hardcore and UK Hardcore)
While nightcore is meant to be sped up slow song (~140 BPM to ~175 BPM), hardcore songs are fast already (>170 BPM). The tricky part is to balance pitch, the BPM and the speed of vocal.

www.di.fm/hardcore

Info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_techno
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Hardcore
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_hardcore

Examples:
175 BPM to 189.2 BPM (sped up 8%)___172 BPM to 211.56 BPM (sped up 23%)__170 BPM to 221 BPM (sped up 30%)

Bad examples
170 BPM to 215 BPM(26.4%), vocal sounds hurried

(iv) Hardstyle
Not all Hardstyle are suitable, some are really too hard and lack of vocal.

http://www.di.fm/hardstyle

Info:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardstyle
http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Hardstyle/
http://www.last.fm/tag/hardstyle

Notice 2:20
(v) Vocal Trance
BEWARE 90% Vocal Trance are too chilling or not hard enough to be nightcore, that's why you see only few nightcore uploaders upload Vocal Trance in nightcore style and this is in minor nightcore.

Again, if you are not sure the songs are ok or not, please ask in the following thread (login needed)

Examples:

Too chilling and not hard enough examples

(c) Song Info
Try the following site if you can't decide what genre the songs are.

(i) Discogs
97% accurate. I trust it a lot, most info is correct. One bad this is it doesn't give the genre of each song in a album but a list of genres for a album.

(ii) Wikipedia
80% accurate. Same bad thing as Discogs. I trust Discogs more when Wikipedia says otherwise.

(iii) Beatport
60% accurate. Even Beatport says it is trance, it is more like house. I also found Beatport has a tendency of keep the remixes' genre as same as the original mix even their genres are clearly different.
For examples, MaLu Project - Heartbeat (Radio Mix) is House
http://www.beatport.com/track/heartbeat ... ix/3274244
but MaLu Project - Heartbeat (HandsUp Radio Mix) is clearly NOT House
http://www.beatport.com/track/heartbeat ... ix/3274245

(iv) Junodownloads
Not much songs can be found here, but it is mostly accurate.

If you're still doubtful, feel free to post in the this thread.
http://nightcoreuniverse.net/viewtopic.php?p=13396

(d) Sampled Music Databases
Websites and databases to find out who performed the original version of a particular song, or who covered or sampled that song.

(i) WhoSampled
http://www.whosampled.com/

(ii) SecondHandSongs
http://www.secondhandsongs.com/

(e) Genre Comparisons
Examples of what genre and style of music to use and not to use.
The top ones are not, the bottom ones are.

Top one is not hard enough, bottom is great

Part 2. Source and Audio Quality
There are 4 factors affecting the quality of your nightcore videos. The quality of the source audio, how you speed up the songs, how you export the audio after speeding up and how you export your . A good audio source is crucial to make quality nightcore, nothing can help if the source is bad at the first place. Editing/transcode will only affect the quality negatively so try to not to use tracks been transcoded a lot like YouTube videos.

(a) Legal Online Purchases
Legal tracks give you best quality but they cost you.

(i) iTunes
Only shows genre (dance), no style (trance/house).
Some tracks may not be available in your region's shop and you can't buy tracks from other regions.
>256 kbps m4a.
Full metadata and album art.

The followings are spectrograms, basically it is the higher the better. TL;DL is iTunes' M4A has the best quality compares to Amazon and Beatport's 320 kbps MP3.

iTunes M4A quality, DJs from Mars - Insane (In Da Brain) (feat. Fragma) [Original Radio Edit], compares to Amazon's
Image

iTunes M4A quality, MaLu Project - Heartbeat (HandsUp Radio Mix), compares to Beatport's
Image

(ii) Amazon
Only shows genre (dance), no style (trance/house).
320 kpbs mp3.
Only available in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Spain. (let me know if there is any change)
Never bought one.

Amazon 320kbps MP3 quality, DJs from Mars - Insane (In Da Brain) (feat. Fragma) [Original Radio Edit]
Image

(iii) Beatport
Include both genre and style but Beatport has tendency to keep remixes' genres same as the original mix even when they are not.
More expensive ($1.49 vs iTunes $0.99)
May got region blocked.
NO metadata and album art in mp3.
Pay with credit cards and PayPal.

Beatport 320kbps MP3 quality, MaLu Project - Heartbeat (HandsUp Radio Mix)
Image

(iv) Junodownloads
Include both genre and style.
A bit more expensive, higher quality even more expensive.
Never bought one.

(v) eMusic
http://www.emusic.com/
Get a $25 music credit and download up to 50 songs when you join eMusic

(vi) Trackitdown
Find they when the songs are nowhere to be found.

(vii) IMO Records

(ix) Play.fm shop

(b) MP3 Download Sites

(i) 4shared
Show Title, Artist and Album
Show Bit rate and sample rate
Show duration.
Show file size.

(ii) Zippyshare
Show duration.
Show file size.

(iii) MyFreeMp3.eu
Show bitrate.

(iv) Mp3Vip

(v) Mp3.li
Find they when the songs are nowhere to be found.

(v) Mixmp3.net
Found a rare track in EXCELLTENT quality there.

(vi) Top-MP3-Download.com
Find they when the songs are nowhere to be found.

(?) Other MP3 site you recommend?

(c) YouTube
Downloading from YouTube should be the last option, three reasons:
1) Audio bitrate of YouTube videos are limited to 192 in HD videos and 128 in non HD
2) You don't their audio source nor how they export the vidoes
3) Audio is transcoded two more times (before and after uploaded to YouTube)

Do so only when the track is nowhere to be found or YouTube somehow has a better audio than the mp3s you found elsewhere. Don't use any video convert to mp3 site, reason is the more times the track is transcoded the worse the quality. Use 4K Downloader and download the whole video in 720p for HD and 480p for non HD videos.

Example of what happens after reuploading the 1000 times. Even you won't do that, just to show you the quality is lowered when uploads on YouTube, especially for the non HD videos in earlier years.

(*) Download 720p even 1080p is available
While the audio of 1080p videos is fine when being played on YouTube, it is not when you download it. Because there is no a 1080p video with audio in YouTube's server, it combines a M4A audio file and a MP4 video file when being played.

The examples is this video, uploaded by me: http://youtu.be/3_sYUF-nRHo

Files detected in YouTube's server
KeepVid.com
Image
Link: http://keepvid.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fw ... _sYUF-nRHo

Using YouTube Video and Audio Downloader (a Firefox addon)
Image

Softwares like 4K Downloader let you download a whole 1080p video WITH audio even YouTube DOES NOT have it, which in fact 4K Downloader CREATES a 1080p video by combining the MP4 1080p video and the M4A audio. But somehow it uses a lower quality M4A audio file.

Image
1080p video SMALLER than 720p videos?

This explains why, the left is the 1080p video and the right one is 720p, 125 kbps vs 192 kbps
Image

So as the raw ACC audio file I extracted from the videos.
Image

SO DOWNLOAD 720p EVEN 1080p IS AVAILABLE FOR THE BEST QUALITY.

My post on Google Product Forums about this: https://productforums.google.com/forum/ ... p7tjZXoinI

(d) Music Sharing Forums
Usually MP3 or even FLAC ripped from legit

(i) Euro Adrenaline Forums
http://www.euroadrenaline.com/

(ii) 4CLUBBERS.PL (Polish)
http://www.4clubbers.com.pl/muzyka-mp3/

(iii) Handsupowo.pl (Polish)
http://www.handsupowo.pl/

(iv) Strona główna forum (Polish)
http://www.skladanki.net.pl/

(e) Legal CD Purchases
25 Million Vinyl Records and CDs from Thousands of Record Stores Worldwide
http://www.musicstack.com/

(f) Audio Quality
Mostly, you don't need to worry about the audio from legal purchase but you do when you are using a mp3 from the Internet. Like some high bitrate mp3s are indeed fake, made from lower bitrate and you need to know how to identify them.

(i) Bitrate
Nothing can help if the audio quality is bad to start with, so pick the best one carefully.
128 is basic, 160 is better, 192 is standard, >192 is great and 320 is ideal.

(ii) Duration
Check if the duration of your mp3s same as the ones states in info sites above, if not, they are edited by the mp3 ripper. But this is a rather minor thing compare to bitrate, metadata and waveform.

(iii) Metadata and Album Art
An ideal mp3 should be full metadata, meaning they are ripped by skilled rippers from legit sources. Album Art is a plus but most people don't keep it to save disk space.
Image

(iv) Waveform

A great feature of Audacity, see Part 3 Software for more infor about Audacity.
Drag the track into Audacity, it should show waveform.

Bad waveforms examples

The mp3 is not using all the bitrate, meaning it is a fake high quality mp3 made from a lower bitrate.
Image

The track originally has higher bitrate but the mp3 doesn't have high enough bitrate, quality been lowered to fit into the mp3.
Image

*Some legal purchased tacks and mp3 look a bit similar to this.
*When there is only one sound track in a audio file, it is mono sound which is bad compare to stereo sound.

(v) Spectrogram
The most poewrful tool to check audio quality. Another great feature of Audacity, see Part 3 Software for more infor about Audacity.
Drag the track into Audacity, click the track name in the left, click Spectrogram
Hover your mouse on the scale, then right click few times to zoom out to max.

Image

Then you see the real quality of the track.

Bad spectrogram examples
The followings are different Nightcore videos I downloaded from YouTube.

FAKE HD Nightcore, using only 100-150 kbps, also a weird gap in the middle.
Image

100 kbps quality.
Image

Good spectrogram examples

ideal 190 kbps quality

Part 3. Software

(a) Virtual DJ
Download: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/index.html

The one of the handiest software to speed up a song.
Image

Good points:
Shows BPM but if it is <100 BPM, it is wrong (usually, unless it is a hardcore and it is 200 BPM on its own), you need to double the BPM.
Pitch slider: Controls the speed/pitch of the track when moving the slider. Moving it downward to speed up.
Key lock: When enabled changing the pitch of the song does not change the tone of the track.
Free (Home version).

Bad points:
A bit more difficult to get a precious sped up % change as you drag pitch slider instead of inputing numbers.
You need to play the whole song when recording.

(b) Audacity
Download: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
You need LAME MP3 encoder to export MP3 and FFmpeg Import/Export Library to import mp4 files which is used in YouTube videos.
LAME MP3 encoder: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... .html#lame
FFmpeg Import/Export Library: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fa ... tml#ffdown

Most used audio editing software by me.

Good points:
Best quality (lossless) when speeding up (changing both tempo and pitch) the track.
Waveform and spectrogram.
Free.

Bad points:
Changing speed and pitch individually will generate a strange sound effect (worst among the three).

(c) WavePad
Download: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/

Good points:
Better quality when changing speed and pitch individually (need more experiment to tell VDJ or WavePad is better when doing this).

Bad points:

Re: How to make Nightcore (Nightcore tutorial) UPDATED WIP

Post by HKO2006 » June 14th, 2014, 12:16 am

Part 4. How to make nightcore style

1. Use Virtual DJ to test around
Image
Frist, drag a song into the disk. Then you drag to pitch slider. As you do so, the PITCH changes.
The common sped up % is 25, but the closest you can get from pitch slider is 24.9% from 33% pitch range. If you want preciously 25%, click the number 33% on top of the pitch slider, changing it to 50%, 100% then back to 6% and so on. It will be 25% after 8 clicks.

If you think the pitch is too high, try a lower pitch, enable key lock, then rise the pitch back. Can you get a lower pitch but same tempo in this way and vice versa.

2. Have you used Key lock to balance tempo and pitch?

Naturally, pitch changes when you change the tempo. By enabling key lock, pitch does not change as tempo does then you risk messing the track.

Examples of messed tracks and ideal tracks.
The left one is messed, the right one is ideal.

Minor messed, notice 1:17-1:30__________notice 2:25-2:40

One example of rather satisfactory outcome of using key lock, except 2:20
To avoid any possible the audio messing altogether, just do not use key lock.

(a) If you used Key lock

If you did use Key lock but managed not to mess up the track, then you can proceed to RECORD then click CONFIG...

A window like this pops up
Image

Auto-Start means it will start recording when you click play.

If you want to have best quality thought out all processes, choose Format as WAV, file size will be 20-30 MB. If you are not as mad as me about audio quality, 320 kbps MP3 is absolutely fine, file size 5-10 MB. If you really don't have much disk space or to save space for mobile devices, at least higher than the original track.

(b) If you didn't use Key lock

Not using Key lock meaning you are feeling good about pitch goes as tempo goes up at the same rate.

Now you need Audacity to make a lossless sped up edit but we are NOT using Effect -> Change Speed, we will be using Set Rate instead.

Image

Click the track name as shown, Set Rate -> Other

25% would be 44100*1.25=55125, 20% would be 44100*1.2=52920, etc.

Notice that after you clicked OK, this process is done instantly, meaning it does not change the song, just sample rate (the number of samples of audio carried per second) is changed. Unlike Change Speed which takes a bit time to process, changing the rate does not resample the track, so is completely lossless - the samples are just moved to different positions along the Timeline. Detailed explanations: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Chang ... h_together

Then you click File -> Export to export. But you need to understand the feature of different format.
WAV: uncompressed, lossless, best quality also the biggest file size.
MP3: compressed, lossy
M4A: compressed, lossy, better audio quality in a lesser space than the mp3

Comparisons of the spectrogram of wav, mp3 and m4a files.
The tack is DJ Gollum - All the Things She Said (feat. Scarlet) (Radio Mix) from iTunes.

Original spectrogram
http://i.imgur.com/HwqSQoU.png

Sped up 25% spectrogram
http://i.imgur.com/NdpPB6B.png

WAV spectrogram
http://i.imgur.com/KlE5CNt.png

MP3 spectrogram
http://i.imgur.com/GnHnIFH.png

M4a spectrogram
http://i.imgur.com/IcIG27o.png

Quality wise: wav > m4a > mp3.

As you can see M4A is more similar to WAV compare to MP3 meaning M4A is less lossy than MP3.
File size comparisons, but who would care about disk space nowadays.
WAV (1411 kbps): 27.8 MB
M4A (500 quality, 355 kbps): 7.04 MB
MP3 (320 kbps constant bit rate): 6.32 MB

Pick WAV if you want the best quality, or M4A for a better reasonable file size. MP3 should be your last consideration.
There is no WAV export options WAV because it is lossless already. But we do have export options for M4A and MP3.

M4A export options:

When you are about to export the audio to M4A

Click Options to bring up the following window, set it to 500 for the best quality

MP3 export options:

You want best quality, so make it as shown above, or at least higher than the original track.

Part 5. Making Video

(a) Video Quality

Video settings:
Resulotions: width x height
Bit rate: how many data per second
Frame rate: how many frames per second

Audio settings:
Bit rate: how many data per second, YouTube use 192 kbps for HD, so we stick with it
kHz: we just use 44.1 kHz consider most audio sources are 44.1 kHz (even Google says YouTube use 48 kHz here. It is meaningless to make them 48 kHz. (even if you do so, YouTube just make them back to 44.1 kHz.)
Mono vs stereo: always go with stereo

Use Maruko Toolbox if you are making a single image video, guide below
How to use Maruko Toolbox 小丸工具箱 a Video-prosessing GUI
http://nightcoreuniverse.net/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5380

(b) Window Movie Maker
If you don't know where to open it, just find Movie Maker then you just find it.
Drag the images and song into Movie Maker. Click Options (under Music Tools), copy the time in End point (wihout s) to Duration which is in Edit (under Video Tools).

Click the blue button. Hover your mouse on Save movie -> push S or scroll to the bottom and click Create custom setting...
Image

Change the setting to this and save it
Image

1920 x 1080 for 1080p, 1280 x 720 for 720p
2048 kbps is enough for most 1 image only videos. If you are using more than one image and you got some blurry videos, change 1080p to 720p.
FPS should not be smaller than 6, YouTube will be make it back to 6 anyways. Also if the fps is too low, it adds 2 second silence the the start and deleted the last 2 seconds.

Detailed explanations of why you should not use 1 fps below, not necessary need to read.
Videos rendered by Windows Movie Maker play audio only after the first frame, so 1 fps will make the first 1 or 2 second silence and delete the last 2 seconds like:

Image Image
Image Image

To compensate lost of the last 2 seconds, you can manually add 2 seconds in the duration of the video. Then Movie Maker deletes the extra 2 seconds you added, then you got the full ending.

Sometimes you got 2s silence or 1s silence, (if you are as mad as me) you can export the videos few more times to get the 1s silence ones. But beware your settings, if you added 2s video duration but only got 1s silence, then you have 1 extra second at the end. Try to match them if possible. (ofc you don't need to unless as mad as me)

The following is added 1s in video duration and I did exported a video with only 1s silence. There are 2 images in the end if you add 2s in video duration.

Image
(c) VideoPad
The max kbps for VideoPad videos is limited to 160 kbps while Movie Maker can have 192 kbps. VideoPad should be the last software you use.
Drag the images and song into VideoPad, then drag the audio and the image to the timeline below. Drag the image to match the duration of the audio.
Click File -> Export video, then you change the options. The following is the ideal setting for me. I just use a single image so 1 fps is fine for me, also keeping the video smaller helps the viewer buffer and download the video faster.
Image
The following window pops up when you click Encoder options
Image
Because I am using 1 fps only, I can afford the best video quality factor (1). At the audio quality part, you don't need 320 kbps as the max quality on YouTube is 192 kbps nor the the video will have 320 kbps. I never have a video made from VideoPad with >170 kbps audio. Let me know if you find another video software allow me to have both 1 fps video and 192 kbps audio.
Detailed YouTube encoding explanations: http://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171
(d) Quality Comparisons
Examples of bad and good audio quality videos.
The top ones are bad, the bottom ones are better ones.

The following are both bad but the bottom one is better.

Well downloading tracks from YouTube should be the last option as bit rate is limited to 128 or 192 for HD. Also quality is lowered when videos uploads on YouTube. One example is after 1000 times of downloading and uploading, the video is very very bad. http://mashable.com/2010/06/03/youtube-i-am-sitting/

Even if YouTube is the only way to get the track, don't use any video convert to mp3 site, reason is as same as above: the more the encoding the worse the quality. Use 4K Downloader and download the whole video in best quality.

I can save in Wavepad free version & trial version, though. However, some feature are disabled.

Also, good tutorial and keep the good work.

Yes, this brings up something I was trying to say. People say that all songs labelled as nightcore would cause confusion. Well that's where adjectives come in. Phrases like "rap music" and "techno music" help people who want a certain kind of music get what they want. Similarly, this should help people who want a certain kind of nightcore.

I like how you acknowledge the people that really want to use the nightcore name for their uploads, regardless of genre.

I add this line because there are two kinds of sped up"sound uploader on YouTube. One would be uploading Artist - Song Name (Sped Up), (Speed Mix) or (Speed Edit) after reading this thread. The other one is diehard sped up sound uploader that believe any sped up sound can be called nightcore no matter what. This line is for the later one, this line is kind of make sense for them so hopefully they would add [genre] so when I search for nihgtcore on YouTube, I would get one less song to check.

Also it would be even clearer if we just stick with nightcore = sped up dance/trance than any sped up sound.
Your reply is like suggesting to give up different genre and style and use Music - Song name [Techno] and Music - Song name [Rock] instead.
I only think up Nightcore - song name [genre], this rather concessionary naming format just for the diehard sped up sound fans. Even this is kind of anti-intellectual, it is the only rather sensible way to filter their songs when the the first suggestion failed (Artist - Song Name (Sped Up), (Speed Mix) or (Speed Edit)).

So the name format Nightcore - Song (Genre) is essentially a last resort sort of thing?

No, the last resort would be letting everyone realize and understand the difference between nightcore and other sped up sound. I still insist not all sped up sound can be called nightcore. Again, it is just a tag for me, because they will name their sped up sound nightcore anyway, adding a tag just let me check one less video.

I think that last sentence just is another way of saying people will name their speed edits nightcore anyway regardless of what they are told. Nothing more, nothing less.

Though correct me if I'm wrong. I tried to base this on what I read in the OP and the replies, but sometimes the English of NU members can be hard to understand (no offense to anyone here).

holy shit I wonder why I didnt find this post earlier it could have prevented mistakes and I see I still do some but I have to figure out what or how to make it better. Well now Im kinda confused since I didnt know that EDM can go into so much detail o.o Im using wavepad idk if its the same like audacity. Is there a tutorial about nightcoring songs with wavepad I mean a bit detailed for example what you have to think of when saving the song. I always change the pitch and speed equally I never use 2 different values. Then after I am done I click on save then variable bit rate (VBR) minimum bitrate 32 (kbps), max bitrate 320, Quality 0 (highest), Channel Encodering Mode Joint. To be honest idk what joint does. Is it better when I change the minimum bitrate to 8 which is the lowest or is it ok to use 32 kbps?

And also I feel very confused with the genres still dont know if the genres are ok or not which I upload. (I mean the latest songs not my first 3 or 4) But my feelings say it can be nightcored otherwise it would sound awful to me. Since I know how to find good nightcore songs I dont think I upload shitty ones like my first nightcores again xd. About quality I think amazon has good quality songs so I dont have to worry about right?

For video editing I use windows movie maker but I have to double check the settings since I used the standart settings which worked fine imo. I also have sony vegas pro but idk how to use this shit xD

Still thanks hko2006 for your detailed tutorial it rly helped me alot!

Since audacity has set rate and wavepad doesn't, I rarely use it. When saving, use CBR 320 for mp3 and 350 VBR for m4a for the best quality. And for the Channel Encodering Mode Joint, read http://www.richardfarrar.com/what-is-joint-stereo/
Updated part 1 and 2, added Bubblegum Dance and Eurobeat in minor nightcore and spectrograms of iTunes' M4A, Amazon's 320 MP3 and Beatport's 320 MP3.

(c) WavePad
WavePad is pretty straight forward.
1st Buy WavePad because it isn't free unless you want to use the 1 week trial.
Next load up your song
Then go to "Sound Effects" to Change "Speed and Pitch" then increase the pitch to how ever it sounds good TO YOU don't let anyone judge how it sounds.
Finnaly click File>Save As> Choose your settings> Then Save!
YOU'RE DONE!

Should use WAV for the best quality. And M4A for high quality storage, the solo reason you should use MP3 is that your device can't play M4A.

Had the idea of making a new tutorial since I read the old one. Sry I can't recall how much time it took making it, I edit the post from time to time whenever I have some new findings/found errors to fix, spending few hours here and few more there. I would say 7 days if counted in using full 24 hours a day.
LonelyLittleAngel wrote:I lost my trial so i cant put pictures but its well explained for a person that has common sense
Well details are the points of the tutorial consider the difference of saving the track as 128 MP3 and 320 MP3 and people are not familiar with audio format, audio quality, etc.

would say you can make the genres clearer and tell that Euro Trance,Euro Dance,Italo Dance and Hands Up is nightcore able. And some sort of newer style of Euro Dance and other sub genres too.

I would add this one:

Why Euro Trance is almost the only genre that you can nightcore:

Euro Trance is a hybrid of Dream trance, Progressive trance, Hard trance and Eurodance music incorporating hardstyle bass drums and trance elements. It is closely related to uplifting trance. The trance synths at times can sound like techno hoovers with trancey effects and strings backing it up. The vocals are often pitched up for the most part, but sometimes they can be heard as in normal pitch range. This is often confused as vocal trance because of its use of vocals. The lyrical content is usually primitive, containing an introduction to the song with usually no or little drums, and often includes renderings of classic Happy hardcore anthems or melodies. Also some of the middle '90s Happy Hardcore producers started to produce tracks in this style.

and then say the original nightcore group only nightcored euro trance. There are only a few songs from other trance sub genres like hard trance and uplifting trance that you can nightcore because they have much euro trance elements but actually euro trance is what fits the most.
